What is a Stroke

A stroke is where there is an interruption to the blood supply to the brain.
Blood supply can be interrupted because of a blocked artery (ischaemic stroke) or when an artery bursts (haemorrhagic stroke).
When there is a blockage or haemorrage the  brain cells do not get enough oxygen or nutrients and as a result they die. The area of brain damage is called a cerebral infarct.

What happens after a stroke

Depending on the amount of brain damage after the stroke will depend on the severity of the symptoms.

It is common after a  stroke to have problems with:

– Movement

-Vision

-Speech
