Case Study 15: Fracture of the Distal Phalanx of the Great Toe

A 25 year old presented with pain of the left great toe they had dropped a heavy TV on the great toe.

Great toe fracture

There was a left distal phalanx fracture which was present when ultra sounding the toe. There was a disruption in the cortex of the phalanx with slight displacement.

Treatment options include:

  • Wearing a more supportive solid shoe (to prevent movement of the fracture)
  • CAM walker immobilisation (to prevent movement of the fracture).
