Performing an ultrasound indicated degeneration of the underlying soft tissue as the iliotibial band passed over the lateral femoral condyle (indicated by the red star).

This problem is called iliotibial band friction syndrome.

Treatment options include:

  • Correcting the abnormal mechanics when walking (overly flat pronated foot)
    • Wearing a more supportive solid shoe
    • Orthotic insoles
  • Addressing the degeneration of the soft tissue
