What are Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walker (CROW)’s for?
These types of walkers are generally used for those who have Charcot Neuroarthropathy generally seen in diabetics.
Charcot causes the joints in the midfoot to collapse and they take on the shape of a ‘Rocker Bottom’.
This is problematic as there are bony prominence’s that breakdown with pressure.
How is a Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walker (CROW) Made?
1. First step is to take an impression of the leg
2. Modifications are made to the plaster cast
3. The CROW is made with fibreglass and a copolymer shell to ensure that is is solid and lightweight.
