Stroke
What is a Stroke
A stroke is where there is an interruption to the blood supply to the brain.
Blood supply can be interrupted because of a blocked artery (ischaemic stroke) or when an artery bursts (haemorrhagic stroke).
When there is a blockage or haemorrage the brain cells do not get enough oxygen or nutrients and as a result they die. The area of brain damage is called a cerebral infarct.
What happens after a stroke
Depending on the amount of brain damage after the stroke will depend on the severity of the symptoms.
It is common after a stroke to have problems with:
– Movement
-Vision
-Speech
